Amid the deep forests of the Vithura–Peppara region in Thiruvananthapuram district, a new chapter of history has been written at the Podiyakkala hilltop. For a tribal settlement of around 250 people, more than 30 children now have a place of their own to play and grow through sports. When Mercy Cops, the Police Department, and the Forest Department joined hands to give wings to their sporting dreams, a beautiful playground became a reality on 50 cents of land in the heart of the forest. This dream project began with a young boy named Amal. Seven months ago, during an Adalat held in this area, Amal shared his wish for a place to play with the Thiruvananthapuram Rural District Police Chief. Building a ground inside a forest was extremely challenging, but the determination to fulfil the children’s dream never faded.
Despite legal hurdles and many challenges, the project moved forward when the Forest Department allotted 50 cents of land, opening the way for this meaningful initiative. Overcoming natural hardships, difficult forest conditions, and the limitations of the election period, the Sevens Football Ground was completed in just seven months.
The official inauguration of this “Playground of Hope” was held on 23.01.2026 at 4:00 PM, and was inaugurated by South Zone IG Sri. Spurjan Kumar IPS. Intelligence IG Sri. Shyam Sundar IPS attended the event as the chief guest. Several senior police officers, forest officials, local representatives, and community leaders were present, sharing the joy of this memorable occasion. Following the inauguration, the ground came alive with excitement. Friendly football matches were held between the children of the settlement, SPC cadets, and police teams. Prizes were distributed to the participants, and the event concluded with a shared fellowship meal.
